The following is in haste and written with a Danish accent.
I was born in Denmark and a child of the 2nd World War. After the war I grew up on Shirley Temple movies, Coca Cola and Louis Armstrong, Glen Miller and Tommy Dorsey music. My dream was to become an actor in USA. Since I couldn’t get into USA I immigrated to Canada instead and without going into enormous detail made it eventually to USA
Because of my accent my search for ‘Oscar roles’ was limited and I didn’t like ‘pumping irons’ so I became a TV Producer/Director instead.
I have been living in USA for over 40 years and am a very patriotic American and proud of it. I’m an independent but I’m voting for Bush even though I dislike Cheney.
It’s amazing to me that Kerry is not ahead by a landslide considering all the hits that Bush has absorbed. He must be wearing a bullet proof west. I have worked for all the traditional Networks and the media bias from all three of them incl. CNN and big city newspapers (NY and LA Times etc.) during this election is extraordinary. Fox News bias for Bush doesn’t make up for it. In spite of that Kerry has very little support because people are not voting for him but voting against Bush.
French and Germany are not friends of US and Russia and China never really were
and when Kerry talks about coalition they are the countries (especially French and Germany) he is referring to.
If it wasn’t for USA the French would be speaking German today and it also important to note that the Americans’ very generous taxpayers paid to rebuilt Europe (particularly French and Germany) through the Marshall Plan including my country Denmark.
Europeans are very jealous of USA and most of them would love to live here. Germany gassed 6 millions Jews and today Germany is still anti-Semitic and the French has joined them. Both countries and Russia dislike us even more for supporting Israel. They are not friends regardless of who is President and Kerry is in fantasyland if he thinks he can change that.
It’s also important to note that we lost 300.000 soldiers in the World War 2. In spite of that England and USA didn’t really win the war it was the Russians that broke the Nazi’s back by spanking them during the battles of Kursk and Stalingrad .
Before that the British and Americans contribution were the bombing campaigns that devastated German cities like Hamburg and Berlin and killed a huge number of civilians, but which completely failed either to destroy the Germans' fighting spirit or halt war production.
American blood is all over the beach of Normandy saving the Frenchmen asses and they still hate us. In one day we lost over 2500 brave men.
The statistics of World War 2 are staggering. This is a pretty solid estimate: a total of 17 million soldiers and 20 to 30 million civilians lost their lives. The Soviet-Union had the most causalities: 10 million soldiers and just as many civilians. Losses on German and Japanese side were 2 to 3 million soldiers and at least 1/2 million civilians in each country. In Poland 5 million civilians lost their lives and in China app. 1.3 million soldiers died. Italy, France, Great-Brittan and Yugoslavia lost hundred of thousands of soldiers and civilians each and again America almost 300.000. A distinctive category in this war, as mentioned above, was the killing of 6 million Jews. German is an asshole country and has been that way for generations and Kerry wants to cater to them?
In Viet Nam we lost over 55.000 boys and comparing that to Iraq is ludicrous.
You can certainly compare Hitler to Sadam. Hitler was more specific in his selection of victims while Sadam didn’t care who he killed or tortured. Fortunately we have so far lost far less soldiers taking him and his sons down. than Hitler. Every life is precious I have five sons and if any of the them would have been killed in Iraq I’m sure I would react differently but unless you are emotional involved unfortunately numbers become statistics.
We pay far too much attention to what the world think of us so we try to fight nice wars
with as few civilian casualties as possible. Listen up: Wars are shitty and innocent children and people will die. I firmly believe that you finished the war quickly using all your MIGHT without worrying about civilians, holy places etc. We will save more lives and The French/Germans, Russia and China and many other countries will still hate us.
When Europe needed us in World War 2 and Bosnia they were quick to call ‘911’
I lived in Canada for 15 years, a nice country, but they are also envious of USA but the majority of them want to work here to improve their life style. Canada totally depends on USA for security their army consists of “15 soldiers with brain damage and the Air Force has two planes and one has a flat tire”. After 9/11 many Canadians thought we had it coming.
A survey indicated that over 75% of Mexicans thought likewise. These countries are our neighbors. Hello.
It’s not our fault that the government of Mexico can’t get their shit together and create
a country people want to live in or that the Canadian economy and social medicine stinks.
I like and trust people as individuals regardless where they are from
but as countries you need to look at their resumes to read their history, tradition and loyalty before favoring them with your trust.
Because of my job as a TV Producer/Director I have traveled extensively all over the world but whenever I come back to USA I kiss the ground.
The whole world lives here and even though we presently are much divided we will make it work without a revolution.
On a another matter we should seriously consider electing our President for a one time 6 year’s term.
It takes a new President and his group a year to settle in. The second year is the most productive and then with a year and a half to go he now has to run for reelection. It makes no sense.
After the election tomorrow we might have a tie and could end up with a coalition government (which is possible). It could be the best thing to happen to us considering the divisiveness because the next four years regardless of who wins tomorrow will be very difficult. Both parties always competing for the ultimate power…the White House.
Well fellow Americans, like New York, we will find a way to climb the mountain and get to the Promised Land.
Regardless who wins I will be there supporting him and I hope you will too. We need to move forward.
